From The Guardian
In Reading's shabby Katesgrove district, just off the deep-cut dual carriageway of the Inner Distribution Road, Stuart 1952, a painter and decorator, led a team of guerrilla gardeners in creating the Common Ground Community Garden on some neglected waste ground. They cleared a large area of needles, used condoms and broken glass and replaced it with a small lawn, wood chippings, seats hewn from logs and pots of purple petunias.
Over the last two weeks local activists have been busy quietly tidying up the garden, building new furniture and fixing a new lock on the gate ready for re-opening. However, a few days ago, RBC changed the locks and re-secured the gate with barricades. No worries though...
Spring re-energises squatting gardeners to dig-in and continue the struggle!

Dear Mr. Sutton,
Re. Wrongful allegations made against Common Ground Community Garden Collective.
Firstly, in the interests of transparency and honesty regarding all concerned, we would like to inform you that this letter is being sent as an 'open' letter and therefore has also been sent to local Reading media contacts.
At 11am on Monday 5th November, three people were stopped by police in an unmarked police car whilst removing boarding from the entrance of the Common Ground Community Garden in Katesgrove. Carl, one of the arrestees, explained that he told the police officer he was "removing the boarding of the community garden so that the community could use the garden". "The police officer then called the council," said carl, and "I overheard that the council official wanted the police to arrest us so that they could have a photo of our faces".
It seems it was “fourth time lucky” for Reading Borough Council bailiffs today, when they finally realised that it’s not a good idea to inform anarcho-commies (and other assorted revolutionary reprobates) 2 weeks in advance if you want to evict them from council land. Arriving unannounced at 9.00am this morning, they began by evicting our squatting neighbours, giving us enough time to form an impromptu resistance of 3 people.
See attached poster.
